Call for Papers
The editors of the UFV Research Review welcome contributions for a special issue on Landscape, Self, and Intercultural Narratives in B.C. and Pacific Northwest Literature, to be published in October, 2009. Scholarly interest in writing from British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest region is growing. Distinguished by its attention to language of place, natural science, local flora and fauna, land and seascapes, and receptivity to aboriginal forebears, much of this literature is increasingly informed by cross-border, inter and multicultural perspectives. Within the context of the region's still relatively young written history, these vivid signifiers may be regarded as constituting a 'literacy of place.' We invite submissions that focus on diverse genre topics, including:
Reflecting the journal's approach, submissions from a variety of disciplinary perspectives are invited from university and college educators, scholars and professional practitioners in the related fields, and graduate and undergraduate students. Submissions may take the form of research articles or field reports (4,000-6,500 words), literature reviews, or position papers (2,500-4,000). Proposals for shorter critical reviews of new works germane to the field, or fresh evaluations of classic titles will be considered, as will critical interviews/profiles with selected major figures. They should be written in a style that is readable and accessible for a broad audience of scholars, students, community members, and general readers. Clear speech and lively debate are encouraged. Submissions should use MLA documentation style. The editorial board will evaluate submissions for suitability to the theme, contribution to the field, interest and usefulness for our audience, and the appropriateness of style. Submissions are evaluated through a double-blind peer review process. Please submit papers in word as e-mail attachments to the editors. A statement that the manuscript is original unpublished material which has not been submitted elsewhere for publication should accompany the submission. For more information, please see the Submission Guidelines found at the Review's website (http://journals.ucfv.ca/rr/). Prospective authors are encouraged to submit proposals by Jan. 30, 2009. The deadline for submission of papers is March 31, 2009. Correspondence should be directed to the editors (Trevor.Carolan@ufv.ca; Ken.Fernstrom@ufv.ca) The UFV Research Review is a peer-reviewed online journal. The topics selected for each issue are of regional and wider importance. The aim of the journal is to present papers in a form that is quickly and easily accessible to the international academic community and to the general public. The Review invites submission from scholars and practitioners working in academic institutions, industry, and public and private agencies. Student submissions are also welcomed.
